            a larger company would go to the same lengths to do this, to produce this type of product. They wouldn’t have our level of obsession.”

在 smokingpipes 找不到 McClelland 的斗草，搜尋一下才看到這則舊聞，不勝唏噓：

END OF AN ERA: MCCLELLAND TOBACCO CLOSES ITS DOORS，May 2018

這家創立於1977年的斗草公司，初期以 Scottish-style 斗草為賣點。當年由於老牌蘇格蘭煙草品牌 Rattray's 被德國煙草商買走了，而被 McClelland 創辦者認為走味了，所以致力於 Scottish-style 斗草的調製。

McClelland於我，有許多美好的回憶。例如早期我很愛的 Frog Morton 系列，除了Frog Morton's Cellar 之外，每一款我都愛用過。

兩款 Dominican Glory 也都享用過～Dominican Glory 發售始於1992年，為Virginia 菸葉混和雪茄葉陳化而成。

至於每年一度的 Christmas Cheer，也偶爾買過。

這款 Rose of Latakia 算是後期迷上 Latakia 時買的，玫瑰香而自然。

其實 McClelland 最迷人的地方，在於有很多優質散草。其中 No. 5125 Coyote Classic Full 是最為著名的戶外草，該草濕潤不易乾燥，在戶外抽斗不易熄也不會因山野之風的吹拂而超起高溫，讓斗客們可以如同郊狼般，獨行天涯，嗷嘯荒野。

電腦中留有的 McClelland 散草存檔照片也不多，就全貼出來緬懷一下～

下圖是摘錄自 TobaccoReviews 中，對於 McClelland 所出品的234種調配的截圖，其中有超過一半 (119 ) 的調配獲得最高的四星評價。但是那又如何呢？

歷經40寒暑，McClelland 終究不敵 FDA 和 USDA 所製造的"完美風暴"。FDA把天然煙草用工業捲煙的標準檢驗，高品質 Virginia leaf 已不易取得，創辦人又不願意讓自己一生的心血結晶如同當年的 Rattray's 般，出售給大型煙草集團，落得精心開發的調配走味的下場。所以她這樣說：
So why not sell the McClelland brand to an existing tobacco manufacturer? The response: “We’re a company that is obsessed,” says Mary. “My husband Mike is the heart of McClelland. And he goes to such extreme lengths to make sure that everything is just right. And we’re a small company. There’s no way a larger company would go to the same lengths to do this, to produce this type of product. They wouldn’t have our level of obsession.”
